DMP Traffic Drive Files 1,841 Cases and Impounds Hundreds of Vehicles
The DMP traffic division has conducted a massive crackdown in Dhaka to restore traffic discipline, resulting in 1,841 cases. Authorities also dumped 581 vehicles and used wreckers on 333 others for rule violations.
In an ongoing effort to restore traffic discipline across the capital city of Dhaka, the traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has carried out a comprehensive operation on Wednesday. The intensive drive targeted various traffic violations and law-breaking motorists on the streets, reflecting the authorities' strict stance on maintaining order on public roadways. During this coordinated crackdown, law enforcement personnel closely monitored traffic movements and prosecuted numerous drivers for failing to comply with established transportation regulations.
According to official statistics released by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department, the day-long operation culminated in a total of 1,841 cases being filed against offending motorists. These cases encompass a wide range of infractions committed on Dhaka's busy thoroughfares, highlighting the persistent challenges faced by traffic authorities in enforcing road safety and compliance among commuters and transport operators within the metropolitan area.
In addition to filing thousands of cases, the DMP traffic division took severe punitive measures against illegally parked and non-compliant vehicles. Authorities confirmed that a total of 581 vehicles were sent for dumping due to serious violations, while another 333 vehicles were physically removed and processed using wreckers. These decisive actions underline the police force's commitment to clearing congested roads and penalizing those who disregard municipal traffic laws.
The operation's extensive reach was reflected in the breakdown of enforcement statistics across the various administrative zones of the capital. The breakdown reveals that the Ramna division recorded 137 cases, the Lalbagh division logged 167 cases, and the Motijheel division accounted for 353 cases. Meanwhile, the Wari division processed 162 cases, the Tejgaon division registered 161 cases, the Mirpur division recorded 366 cases, the Uttara division saw 287 cases, and the Gulshan division reported 208 cases.
Senior officials and spokespersons within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, including Niaz Mehedi, have been monitoring the implementation of these safety and disciplinary measures. The heightened enforcement by the DMP traffic division aims to curb chronic gridlock, deter reckless driving, and foster a safer commuting environment for all residents navigating Dhaka's complex urban transport network on a daily basis.
