DMP Drives Against Illegal Rickshaw Charging and Power Links in Mirpur
Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted a major operation on August 30, 2026, targeting illegal electricity connections and battery-powered rickshaw charging points across several settlements in Mirpur. Authorities disconnected numerous unauthorized power lines and seized substantial electrical equipment during the targeted raids.
On August 30, 2026, the Traffic Mirpur Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) carried out a comprehensive enforcement operation targeting illegal electricity connections and unauthorized battery-powered rickshaw charging points in various slums and settlements across the Mirpur area of Dhaka.
The concerted crackdown specifically focused on several vulnerable urban settlements, including the Pocket Slum adjacent to the Kafrul Staff Quarter, Jheelpar Slum in Rupnagar, Cholontika Slum, and surrounding tin-shed residential zones. These areas have frequently been associated with the unauthorized siphoning of utility power.
During the coordinated field operations, law enforcement and utility personnel successfully disconnected 10 illegal electricity connections that were being operated without authorization. In addition to cutting off the power lines, the teams shut down 500 active charging points utilized for unauthorized vehicles.
The enforcement teams also seized a substantial quantity of illegal electrical infrastructure and operational hardware from the targeted locations. This included approximately 200 meters of electrical wiring, which had an estimated total weight of 70 kilograms, along with three dedicated charging adapters used in the illicit network.
The multi-agency intervention was executed with the collaborative participation of several key entities, including the Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Kafrul Police Station, Rupnagar Police Station, and the Public Order Management (POM) Force, under the leadership and coordination of Mohammad Sanoar Hossain.
