Dinajpur Transport Strike Halts All Routes After Union Leader's Arrest

Transport services across Dinajpur came to a complete standstill on August 27 following the arrest of Sheikh Badshah, a prominent leader of the Dinajpur District Motor Transport Workers Union. The apprehension of the union official triggered an immediate and widespread reaction from transport workers operating within the region, who collectively decided to halt all vehicular movement across every route originating from the district.

The disruption began early in the morning, specifically starting at 7:00 AM on Thursday. Workers systematically utilized their vehicles to enforce the stoppage, positioning buses directly across various strategic points along both internal and inter-district roadways to effectively block any traffic from passing through the affected transportation corridors.

In addition to blocking the regional highways and roads, the protesting transport workers advanced their demonstrations directly toward the urban center. They deliberately parked buses sideways across the main entry points of the city, creating physical barriers that effectively cut off standard vehicular access and paralyzed movement in and out of the municipality.

The mobilization culminated in a mass demonstration outside local law enforcement headquarters. The gathered workers converged upon the Kotwali Police Station, surrounding the facility to voice their strong indignation over the detention of Sheikh Badshah and to demand his immediate and unconditional release from custody.

The ongoing stoppage continues to affect all regular commuters and transport operations throughout the Dinajpur area as the union maintains its protest stance regarding the police action against their detained representative. Authorities at the Kotwali Police Station have been handling the situation as demonstrators persist with their rallies surrounding the law enforcement premises.
