Dhaka Wasa Land in Gulshan Sparks Debate Over High-Rise Proposal

A significant controversy and discussion have emerged surrounding a proposal to construct a multi-storied private building on Dhaka Wasa land located in Gulshan-2, Dhaka. The developments, documented on August 10, 2024, center on a specific tract of land situated on Road 55 in Gulshan, measuring 114 katha in total area.

In connection with this real estate initiative, a private housing company named Assure Development and Design has formally proposed the construction of a 19-storey residential building on the aforementioned land through a joint venture arrangement. The sheer scale and nature of the proposed high-rise development have drawn considerable attention from various quarters.

As the discussions and debates surrounding the project intensified, the authorities at Dhaka Wasa took official notice of the matter. To properly evaluate the feasibility and implications of the private institution's building proposal, Dhaka Wasa has formed a dedicated three-member committee.

The newly formed evaluation committee comprises specific individuals tasked with reviewing the details of the joint venture proposal. The panel includes Mo. Sheikh Sadi, Mo. Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashfakul Numan, Mo. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, and Mo. Riyazul Islam, who are now charged with examining the various aspects of the contentious project on the Gulshan land.

The controversy also involves multiple organizations and entities linked contextually to the area and urban planning, including Rajuk, the Dhaka Improvement Trust (DIT), the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), Gulshani Society, and Prothom Alo. As the three-member committee begins its work, stakeholders and observers await further decisions regarding the fate of the 114 katha plot on Road 55.
