Dhaka WASA employee killed in Mirpur hit-and-run

A tragic road accident in the capital's Mirpur area has claimed the life of a long-serving employee of Dhaka WASA. The victim, identified as Md Shamim, was fatally struck by a vehicle in the early hours of the morning while in the Mirpur-10 area, plunging his family and colleagues into deep grief.

According to the verified details of the incident, the fatal collision took place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 6:00 AM local time in the Senpara locality situated under the Mirpur-10 area of Dhaka. Md Shamim was a native of Paikhand Baradia village located in the Bera upazila of Pabna district.

At the time of his untimely death, Md Shamim had dedicated a significant portion of his life to public service, having worked as an employee for Dhaka WASA for approximately 25 years. His decades of institutional knowledge and daily labor were abruptly cut short by the devastating morning collision on the streets of Mirpur.

Local law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the gravity of the situation. Kafrul Police Station's Sub-Inspector Md Saiful Islam detailed the immediate police response, stating that upon receiving news of the accident, officers rushed to the scene and completed all necessary legal procedures.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the victim's remains were transported from the accident site to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue. There, a formal post-mortem examination will be conducted to officially document the cause of death before the body is released to the grieving family.

Regarding the perpetrator, Sub-Inspector Md Saiful Islam confirmed that the killer driver and the vehicle have not yet been identified. Investigators are currently reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area and have vowed that strict legal action will be taken once the responsible parties are traced.
