Dhaka University Students Reject Hall Curfew Relaxation Plan

Female students at Dhaka University have officially rejected an administrative proposal to relax the night curfew for residential halls by one hour. The current rule requires women to return to their halls by 10:00 PM, and the university's recent suggestion to push this limit slightly has faced immediate and stern opposition from the student body.

The rejection was announced during a press conference organized by the student platform 'Oborodhbasini' in front of Rokeya Hall at Dhaka University on Thursday. The platform, along with several supporting organizations including Shamsunnahar Hall, DUCSU, Leftist Resistance Council, Biplobi Chhatra Maitree, and Socialist Students Front, has been actively protesting against the existing residential regulations.

According to the confirmed details of the movement, the 'Oborodhbasini' platform has been pressing forward with three core demands since July 30. The student activists maintain that a mere one-hour relaxation of the 10:00 PM entry limit is entirely insufficient and fails to address the root of their grievances regarding freedom of movement and residential equality on campus.

As part of their ongoing protest strategy, representatives of the movement including Ishrat Jahan Emu, Aditi Islam, and Tanzila Islam previously escalated their demands to the university administration. On August 9, they formally submitted a memorandum to the university vice-chancellor containing the signatures of more than 1,200 female students who support the complete abolition of the curfew.

The current demonstrations outside Rokeya Hall highlight persistent tensions surrounding gender-based restrictions at Dhaka University. With the platform 'Oborodhbasini' maintaining its firm stance against the administrative compromise, the student leaders continue to advocate for the total removal of the restrictive hall entry timelines.
