ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় authorities have officially extended the gate-closing time for all female residential halls by one hour, shifting the deadline from 10 PM to 11 PM. This policy change comes in direct response to sustained movements and protests organized by female students advocating for campus reforms, including platforms such as the 'বৈষম্যহীন নারী হল চাই', 'নারী হল সংস্কার আন্দোলন', and 'অবরোধবাসিনী'.
The formal approval for the time extension was granted during a meeting of the Dhaka University syndicate on the afternoon of August 31, 2026. Prior to this syndicate approval, the proactive measure had already been recommended by the university's Provost Standing Committee earlier in the month on August 17, paving the way for the administrative adjustment.
Alongside the modification of the curfew hours, the university administration has addressed broader student grievances by establishing a dedicated committee. This newly formed body is headed by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Administration, Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. Mohammad Al-Mojaddedi Alfesani, and is tasked with evaluating and addressing the remaining demands put forward by the female student protesters.
The successful revision of the hall closing time marks a significant development for students residing in the university's female dormitories.
