On Thursday, September 17, Dhaka South City Corporation administrator Abdus Salam spoke to journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka following a special meeting with the Prime Minister. During his briefing with reporters, Salam outlined a series of significant administrative plans aimed at transforming the recreational landscape of the capital city.

Among the primary initiatives announced by the Dhaka South City Corporation administrator are comprehensive efforts to clean Dhanmondi Lake, drastically reduce the number of commercial food shops operating around the water body, and construct the Nazrul Mancha venue. These combined measures are intended to give the entire Dhanmondi Lake area a modern and aesthetically pleasing transformation for the public.

Detailing the specific changes concerning commercial vendors operating near the lake, Abdus Salam stated: “We will clean Dhanmondi Lake. A Nazrul Mancha will be established there for us. That means so that we can give the entire Dhanmondi Lake a modern and beautiful shape. At that time, we will actually reduce the arrangement of these food shops. Maybe one or two might remain. What seems to be is that people want to sit and drink a cup of tea. Except for that kind of opportunity, we will close all the rest, absolutely one hundred percent.”

Addressing the implementation timeline for these municipal directives, the administrator emphasized the urgency mandated by the nation's leadership. Highlighting the accountability required by the administration, Abdus Salam noted: “We are trying to do it as quickly as possible. The Prime Minister has set a time frame for us, up to December 2nd. How much we were able to develop, what work we did, she will take a report on this again in December.”

The high-level discussions involved key governmental bodies, including the Cabinet Division, reinforcing the official coordination behind the urban renewal project. As the Dhaka South City Corporation moves forward with these directives, city officials face a strict scheduling window to complete the promised developments ahead of the December evaluation.
