Dhaka Launches Metro Median Tree-Planting Drive and Night Market Plan

On Thursday, September 3, a new tree-planting program was officially inaugurated along the metro rail median stretching from the Education Building to the Dainik Bangla intersection in Dhaka. This environmental initiative is part of broader urban beautification efforts, with authorities confirming that trees will eventually be planted underneath all flyovers across the city in a phased approach.

During the inauguration event, administrator Abdus সালাম addressed the pressing issue of street vending in the capital. He issued a direct appeal to the city's hawkers, urging them to voluntarily clear the areas in a timely manner to support urban order and the newly launched beautification and greening initiatives.

To address the livelihood concerns of the displaced vendors, administrator Abdus Salam announced specific relocation plans for the Motijheel area. A dedicated night market is scheduled to be launched in Motijheel, which will operate daily following the conclusion of regular office hours starting from 4:00 PM in the afternoon.

Emphasizing the necessity of regulation, administrator Abdus Salam noted that vendors will be permitted to operate within this newly designated night market structure. However, he stressed that it will not be feasible to allow hawkers to occupy public spaces across all locations seven days a week.

Concluding the directives regarding the night market operations, administrator Abdus Salam stated that all participating vendors must strictly adhere to established regulations. Specifically, the street vendors will be required to maintain proper cleanliness standards and follow official operational rules while conducting their business in the evening market space.
