Cox's Bazar-bound Tourist Express train hit by parked vehicle in Chattogram
A Tourist Express train collided with a parked auto-rickshaw in Chattogram's Boalkhali, damaging six doors and injuring two passengers. The train was temporarily halted for repairs before resuming its journey.
On August 24, 2026, a collision occurred involving the Dhaka-to-Cox's Bazar-bound Tourist Express train and a CNG-powered tempo or laguna that was parked near the tracks. The incident took place in the Gomdandi Railway Station area located within the Boalkhali municipal headquarters of Chattogram.
According to official statements, the moving train brushed against the parked vehicle while passing through the area. The impact caused significant damage to the train infrastructure, specifically affecting the exterior of the carriages.
Providing details on the aftermath, Anwarul Tareq stated that the friction-related incident damaged six doors of the train. He added that the impact resulted in injuries to two passengers, including a child.
Kanchan Bhattacharya elaborated on the recovery operations following the collision. The broken door component was secured and placed under railway custody, while the implicated laguna was seized and handed over to the local police authorities. Authorities confirmed that neither a driver nor any passengers were inside the laguna at the time of the collision.
Addressing the underlying causes of such incidents, Rafiqul Islam noted that recurrent accidents continue to happen at that specific location because vehicles are habitually parked dangerously close to the railway lines.
As a result of the incident, the train experienced an unscheduled delay. It subsequently arrived at the Patiya Station at 1:10 PM, where it was detained for fifteen minutes to allow railway personnel to carry out necessary repairs before continuing toward its destination.
