Call in Parliament to observe General M A G Osmani's birth and death days
Lawmaker Md. Monarul Haque Chowdhury has submitted a notice in the national parliament demanding state-level observance for General M A G Osmani. He also called for the historical figures and life of Osmani to be included in national textbooks.

During a session at the national parliament in Dhaka on September 8, a formal demand was raised to officially recognize and observe the birth and death anniversaries of General M A G Osmani at the state level. In addition to the state-level commemorations, the proposal calls for the inclusion of General Osmani's life, history, and legacy into the national textbooks for students across the country. The proceedings regarding this matter took place within the official chambers of the legislature, bringing renewed attention to the historical contributions of the prominent figure.
Md. Monarul Haque Chowdhury, serving as the Member of Parliament for the Comilla-6 constituency, took the parliamentary floor to address the assembly. Utilizing the provisions outlined in rule 302 of the parliament's rules of procedure, lawmaker Chowdhury formally submitted a notice detailing the demands concerning General M A G Osmani. The submission of this specific notice marks a legislative step toward pressing the government to take official action on the matter.
Highlighting the current omission of the general from educational materials, lawmaker Chowdhury raised critical questions regarding the educational curriculum. Expressing his personal dismay over the current state of recognition, Md. Monarul Haque Chowdhury stated on the floor, 'I do not know whether there is even a single line about General Osmani in school and college textbooks. I feel General Osmani is a victim of neglect today. I am ashamed for this reason.'
Following the presentation of the notice under rule 302 by the Comilla-6 lawmaker, the parliamentary leadership took formal cognizance of the motion. Speaker Hafiz উদ্দিন আহমদ officially accepted the notice submitted by Md. Monarul Haque Chowdhury during the parliamentary session. The acceptance by the speaker moves the legislative process forward for the propositions brought forth by the lawmakers.
Despite his historical significance and contributions, the birth and death anniversaries of General M A G Osmani currently lack any form of official recognition at the state level. The absence of state-sponsored commemorations, combined with the stated lack of coverage in school and college textbooks, has driven representatives like Md. Monarul Haque Chowdhury to seek formal interventions through the national parliament. The discussions and notices within the legislature aim to rectify what supporting organizations, such as the Bangabir Osmani Smriti Parishad, and members of parliament view as a significant historical oversight.
