Cabinet Committee Approves BDT 12,537 Crore Fuel and Procurement Deals

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved a massive expenditure totaling 12 billion 537 billion 49 million 70 thousand taka for various procurement proposals, including refined petroleum products. The high-level meeting took place at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday, chaired in the presence of key officials and involving multiple international and domestic entities such as Qatar Energy Trading LLC, Unipec, PetroChina, BSP, and Dhaka WASA, alongside Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

As part of the approved energy measures, the committee sanctioned the import of refined fuel oils covering the period from September to December, amounting to the total staggering figure of 12 billion 537 billion 49 million 70 thousand taka. Additionally, the meeting formally decided to procure an extra cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) under the existing long-term agreement with Qatar Energy Trading LLC to meet growing domestic energy demands.

In a separate decision aimed at supporting social welfare programs, the committee cleared a procurement proposal for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Under this approved initiative, TCB will purchase 10 thousand tons of lentils at a total cost of 76 crore 79 lakh taka, ensuring essential food supplies are maintained for distribution.

Infrastructure development also received significant attention during Wednesday's session at the Secretariat in Dhaka. The cabinet committee approved 180 crore taka for riverbank protection works spanning 1,625 meters along the Jamuna River in Kalihati upazila of Tangail district, aimed at preventing severe erosion.

The comprehensive meeting further addressed various other financial outlays and proposals, including specific allocations of 61 crore 69 lakh 95 thousand 573 taka and 215 crore taka for distinct projects, alongside a notable procurement milestone scheduled for November 10, rounding out a packed agenda of national economic decisions.
