On Wednesday, a violent incident unfolded at the Sonatola railway station located in Sonatola upazila of Bogura, resulting in widespread destruction, physical assaults, and the complete suspension of station activities. According to confirmed reports, a group consisting of 20 to 25 individuals launched an attack on the railway facility after railway authorities halted an unauthorized construction project on railway property.

During the confrontation, the stationmaster, Rabiul Islam, was severely targeted by the perpetrators. According to Rabiul Islam, the attackers forcefully entered his office room, where they proceeded to vandalize essential equipment including a computer and a printer. Furthermore, the stationmaster stated that he was subjected to brutal physical assaults during the raid. Citing severe safety concerns and acting with the necessary authorization from higher authorities, the stationmaster officially announced the temporary shutdown of all operational activities at the Sonatola railway station.

The tensions escalation originated from a dispute over land use, specifically regarding a public toilet that was being constructed on railway property using government funding. When railway personnel arrived at the scene to demolish the under-construction toilet structure, local residents gathered alongside leaders and activists affiliated with local political organizations, namely Swechchasebak Dal and Jubo Dal, to voice their strong opposition.

Mizanur Rahman (Babu), representing the opposing perspective, addressed the situation by claiming that the railway authorities' intervention prompted local residents, supported by Swechchasebak Dal and Jubo Dal activists, to protest the demolition. Mizanur Rahman (Babu) explicitly denied the occurrence of any physical attacks or beatings, asserting that the allegations of assault were entirely incorrect.

The violence also extended to other railway officials present at the scene. Aslam Howlader and Babulur Rahman were noted in the context of the events, while railway sub-assistant engineer Shamim Hossain was specifically humiliated and assaulted, with the attackers forcibly deleting video footage from his mobile phone during the altercation.

In the aftermath of the unrest, local law enforcement agencies responded to the situation. Roushan Kabir, representing Sonatola police station, confirmed that upon receiving information regarding the unpleasant incidents at the railway station, police forces were immediately deployed to inspect the scene. Roushan Kabir further stated that subsequent legal actions and official measures regarding the crimes committed will be handled and processed by the GRP (Government Railway Police) station authorities.
