BNP Nominates Mirza Fakhrul for Presidency Amid Birthday Tributes to Khaleda Zia

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially announced its nomination of Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as the party's candidate for the 23rd presidential election in Bangladesh. The high-profile political decision was revealed during a recent party event that brought together numerous senior leaders and organization members to discuss national leadership and upcoming political strategies.

Amid discussions surrounding the presidential nomination, the gathering also touched upon Mirza Fakhrul's lesser-known past in the cultural and theatrical sector. Reflecting on his formative years, the BNP secretary general noted that he had been involved with drama, acting, and stage direction since his student life in Thakurgaon. He specifically recalled receiving his initial acting training under the mentorship of figures like Phani Bhushan Pal, affectionately known as Phani Palis.

Expanding on his theatrical background, Mirza Fakhrul shared memories of sharing the stage with notable entertainment figures. He mentioned that film actor Rahman is his maternal cousin, and recalled performing alongside Rahman and Anwar Hossain on stage. Reflecting on these artistic pursuits, he remarked that the cultural realm is undoubtedly a much more enjoyable sphere compared to conventional politics.

The event also served as a platform for the BNP to host a special prayer assembly dedicated to the birthday of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia, alongside the National Jatiyatabadi Ulama Dal. Paying glowing tributes to the party leader, Mirza Fakhrul stated that Khaleda Zia was born on this significant day and has her destiny intertwined with that of Bangladesh. He praised her for repeatedly leading the nation through struggles to restore democracy and participating in the ongoing campaign to enrich the country.

Praising her organizational legacy, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that Khaleda Zia is the primary architect behind the transformation of the BNP into a genuine political party. He noted that through prolonged struggle and battle, she never compromised on her principles and successfully sustained the party, serving as a constant source of inspiration for members. Taking the opportunity to outline future objectives, he urged party members to take a solemn vow to ensure the BNP evolves into a robust democratic organization fully capable of providing capable leadership to Bangladesh.

Concluding his address, Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the current governance landscape, noting that with the BNP having formed the government, public expectations are high. He stressed that the collective focus in the days ahead must be on implementing Khaleda Zia's policy vision—specifically Vision 2030 and the subsequent 31-point program introduced by her party—to strengthen the organization and preserve the international image of Bangladesh.
