Barishal Zilla School Marks Historic Legacy Dating Back to 1829
Barishal Zilla School, originally established as Barishal English School with only eight students, celebrates its long-standing heritage. The historic institution has shaped numerous prominent figures throughout its centuries-old existence.
Barishal Zilla School, one of the most historically significant educational institutions in the region, is currently celebrating its rich history and enduring tradition. Founded on the twenty-third day of December in the year 1829, the institution originally opened its doors under the name of Barishal English School.
At the time of its inception, the school began its academic journey with a remarkably small cohort, accommodating only eight students. Despite its modest beginnings in Barishal, Bangladesh, the institution steadily grew in stature, laying a foundational pillar for modern education in the area during the nineteenth century.
During its earliest days, the administration and academic instruction of the nascent school were guided by its inaugural headmaster, John Smith. His leadership helped establish the foundational standards for the institution as it navigated its formative years under colonial administration.
As the institution progressed, significant administrative changes took place to reflect its expanding role in the educational landscape. Most notably, in the year 1853, the school underwent a formal name change, officially becoming known as Barishal Zilla School, a title it maintains to this day.
Over the generations, the historic institution has been associated with a vast array of notable individuals across various fields, including Shawon Khan, Mr. N. W. Garrett, Babu Tanuram Lahiri, Muhammad Nurul Islam, A. K.
