BANZI Biennial Election Set for Sunday in Auckland

The Bangladesh Association New Zealand Incorporated (BANZI) is preparing to hold its much-anticipated biennial election this coming Sunday in Auckland, New Zealand. This significant organizational event brings together the expatriate community to shape the leadership of the association for the upcoming term leading up to 2028.

The electoral process for the 11-member executive committee has already seen several positions filled uncontested. Specifically, the candidate for the presidency alongside candidates for seven total positions have been elected without contest, reflecting a strong initial consensus among community members regarding key leadership roles.

Despite the uncontested victories for the majority of the roles, the remaining four positions on the 11-member executive committee are actively contested. A total of eight candidates, organized into two separate opposing panels, are currently vying for these final available seats on the committee.

The physical polling and election proceedings are scheduled to take place at the New Windsor School auditorium, located at 158 New Windsor Road in Auckland. This venue will host the gathering of the local diaspora, which currently encompasses more than 1,700 expatriate Bangladeshis residing in the region.

As the community prepares for the Sunday vote, participants are reminded of the overarching unity that binds the diaspora together across geographic distances. Reflecting on this collective bond, a statement from the community noted, "In the soil of exile, our roots are one, our identity is one, and our community is also one."
