Bangladesh U-20 Football Team Prepares for Uzbekistan Departure Amid Coaching Tensions

The Bangladesh under-20 national football squad held a training session this morning under the supervision of British coach Gerard Jones at the Kamalapur Stadium in Dhaka. The team is currently finalizing its preparations as they gear up to travel to Uzbekistan tomorrow night for the highly anticipated AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

However, the build-up to the continental tournament has been overshadowed by internal developments involving the coaching staff. Reports have emerged regarding the involvement and conflict between British coach Gerard Jones and assistant coach Atiqur Rahman Mishu, drawing attention from the Bangladesh Football Federation and the BFF Development Committee, alongside figures like Adam Abbas.

Despite the off-pitch tensions surrounding the coaching staff, the players continue their on-field training regimen at the Kamalapur venue. The federation and relevant committees are navigating the situation as the squad enters the final 24 hours before their scheduled international departure.

Once the team arrives in Uzbekistan, they will compete in Group B of the qualifiers. The Bangladeshi side faces a challenging group stage featuring matches against formidable opponents, including tournament hosts Uzbekistan, alongside national teams from Syria and India.

The team's tournament campaign is scheduled to officially commence on August 31 with an opening match against hosts Uzbekistan. Following the inaugural fixture, Bangladesh will face Syria on September 3, before concluding their group stage matches against India on September 6.
