DHAKA, BANGLADESH — The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has released comprehensive case disposal statistics covering the first eight months of the year 2026. The official data, which details the judicial output of the country's highest court, was shared publicly on Sunday, September 13, 2026, by Supreme Court public relations officer Md. Shafiqul Islam in Dhaka.
According to the statistics provided by Md. Shafiqul Islam, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court disposed of a total of 11,136 cases between January 1 and August 31, 2026. During this exact same eight-month timeframe, a total of 9,139 new cases were filed within the Appellate Division, reflecting a continuous influx of legal matters requiring judicial attention.
The concerted disposal efforts resulted in a tangible decrease in the backlog of pending litigation within the Appellate Division. At the very beginning of 2026, the number of cases awaiting resolution in the Appellate Division stood at 41,551. However, following the conclusion of proceedings through August 31, the total number of pending cases dropped to 39,554.
Meanwhile, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court demonstrated substantial judicial output during the same eight-month period. Records shared by the public relations officer indicate that the High Court Division successfully disposed of a total of 87,596 cases between January and August 2026.
The impact of these disposals on the High Court Division's massive caseload is similarly reflected in the opening and closing figures for the year. At the start of 2026, the High Court Division carried a staggering total of 659,256 pending cases. By the end of the period on August 31, that figure decreased, bringing the total number of pending cases down to 646,276.
