Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is set to launch regular ticketed film screenings starting on August 15, marking a significant development for the country's independent cinema sector. The upcoming screenings will take place at the Shilpakala Academy Natyakala Auditorium, showcasing a curated selection of notable independent films for local audiences.

The inaugural slate of screenings at the Shilpakala Academy features three distinct independent films by prominent directors. These include 'The University of Chankharpool' directed by Akash Haq, 'Mastul' directed by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, and 'Roid' directed by Mezbaur Rahman Sumon. Tickets for these regular screenings at the academy have been priced at 100 taka per ticket.

In a financial arrangement designed to support creators, future policies dictate that film producers will receive 70 percent of total ticket sales. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will retain 30 percent of the share from the ticket sales to support operational management.

Dipak Kumar Goswami elaborated on the institution's broader vision, stating that plans are underway to organize film screenings at least one day a week. Goswami noted that there are further plans to expand these arrangements more broadly, with cinema screening activities eventually being introduced across Shilpakala academies outside of Dhaka as well.

Highlighting the impact of the new initiative, Goswami added that fully operationalizing cinema screenings at Shilpakala will forge new pathways for the country's independent filmmakers. He also observed that during a previous three-day festival, audiences felt comfortable watching films at Shilpakala, expressing belief that this environment will ultimately prove beneficial for viewers.

Simultaneously, independent cinema is expanding its reach outside the capital through special regional events. The film 'Delupi', directed by Mohammad Towqir Islam, is scheduled for special screenings at the Batiaghata Upazila Parishad Auditorium in Khulna on Friday, August 14, featuring a total of four shows with tickets priced at 99 taka each.
