Between February 24 and August 24, a disturbing wave of violence swept across Bangladesh, resulting in 18 separate incidents where multiple members of the same family were killed. Data compiled from official and media sources, including the Police Headquarters and Prothom Alo, indicates that these localized tragedies have collectively claimed at least 47 lives over the past six months.

The scale of these family homicides varies by the number of victims involved in each specific household attack. Out of the 18 total recorded incidents, 12 cases tragically involved the deaths of two members from the same family. Meanwhile, incidents involving three family fatalities occurred twice, while attacks resulting in four deaths were documented in three separate instances. Additionally, at least one devastating incident resulted in the deaths of five family members.

A chronological examination of the data shows fluctuating patterns of violence throughout the six-month timeframe, with particular concentrations during certain months. Reports indicate that five separate multiple-family homicide incidents occurred in the month of May alone. The trend continued with alarming frequency into the summer, as another five distinct incidents were recorded during the first 24 days of August.

Specific geographic locations and households have been deeply impacted by these horrific crimes across various districts in Bangladesh, including Rangpur, Lakshmipur, Chattogram, and Sylhet. Among the documented cases, an incident occurred last June in Raipur, Lakshmipur, where a mother and her three daughters were hacked to death, prompting a local response involving the Raipur police station.

Further compounding the grief documented in these statistics, additional grim discoveries shook local communities in recent months. In Chattogram's Anwara upazila, Swapan Das Gupta and his wife Kalpana Das Gupta were murdered on July 25. Most recently, on Saturday night, the bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty, their daughter Agami Chakraborty, and their son Ayush Chakraborty were recovered from their home in Rangpur's Machuyapara area.
