Bangladesh Post Office Expands Speed Post for Heavy Freight

The Directorate of Posts in Dhaka has highlighted the expanding capabilities and future plans of its speed post service, enabling citizens to transport a wide variety of large items across the country. According to recent updates from the postal authorities, the service now accommodates various lawful goods and bulky items, providing a reliable alternative for domestic logistics and cargo delivery within Bangladesh.

Director General Kazi Asadul Islam detailed the operational scope of the service, noting that motorcycles, refrigerators, furniture, and electronic products are among the items currently being transported. Emphasizing the broader social impact of the initiative, Islam stated that establishing a connection among people is a greater achievement than the monetary value generated, viewing the postal network as a vital human bridge.

Official statistics released by the department reveal that approximately 400 tons of diverse products have been successfully transported through the speed post network over the last two months alone. To maintain safety and regulatory compliance, the postal department has explicitly restricted the shipment of certain items, confirming that explosives, flammable substances, narcotics, and firearms are strictly prohibited under the service.

Regarding delivery timeframes, the postal department has established structured benchmarks to ensure timely service execution across different geographical terrains. Deliveries from district headquarters to Dhaka are scheduled to take a maximum of 24 hours, while transit between two separate districts is capped at a maximum of 48 hours. For remote and inaccessible regions, the delivery window is extended to a maximum of 96 hours.

Elaborating on the legal parameters of the logistics operation, Kazi Asadul Islam explained that any product not deemed illegal under the country's laws can now be loaded onto postal vehicles, unloaded, and successfully delivered directly by postmen. This comprehensive approach aims to streamline the movement of commercial and personal goods alike.

In addition to standard freight operations, the organization is integrating environmentally friendly initiatives, which include the collection of 50 electric bikes under a green project. The Directorate of Posts also noted significant administrative involvement in recent democratic exercises, recalling that more than 1,533,000 voters registered to cast their ballots via postal votes during the previous parliamentary election.
