Bangladesh Plans to Bring All Districts Under Railway Network

During a session at the Jatiya Sangsad in Dhaka on September 9, the railway minister announced a comprehensive plan to bring all districts across the country under the railway network. The announcement outlines a strategic vision aimed at expanding the national transportation infrastructure to enhance connectivity nationwide.
According to the official details presented in parliament, this ambitious initiative is being undertaken in alignment with the government's electoral manifesto and the overarching master plan formulated by Bangladesh Railway. The systematic expansion is designed to ensure that previously unconnected regions are gradually integrated into the national rail grid.
As part of the ongoing efforts to expand this crucial transport network, several major infrastructure projects are currently being implemented. These active initiatives include the construction of a new broad-gauge railway stretching from Madhukhali through Kamarkhali to Magura town, as well as the development of a new dual-gauge railway connecting Bogura to Sirajganj.
Statistical data provided regarding the existing infrastructure reveals the current scale of the railway system. The total length of the railway routes across the country currently measures 3,428.09 kilometers. Breaking down the route types, the network includes 1,591.43 kilometers of meter-gauge routes, 1,066.60 kilometers of broad-gauge routes, and 770.06 kilometers of dual-gauge routes.
Furthermore, the comprehensive figures detail the total length of the railway tracks, which spans a remarkable 4,826.097 kilometers. This extensive track measurement is further subdivided into 2,307.383 kilometers of meter-gauge tracks, 1,434.19 kilometers of broad-gauge tracks, and 1,084.526 kilometers of dual-gauge tracks across the national system.
