Bangladesh Met Office Issues Rain, Thunderstorm and Riverport Alerts
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued rain and thunderstorm forecasts alongside a level-one warning for inland riverports. Several regions across the country are expected to experience gusty or squally winds.
The meteorological authorities in Bangladesh have issued weather warnings and forecasts predicting rain and thunderstorms across various regions of the country. According to the official updates released between August 30 and 31, the weather system brings notable changes to atmospheric conditions in multiple areas, including Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet.
In the capital city of Dhaka and its surrounding areas, morning observations recorded the temperature at 27.2 degrees Celsius alongside a relative humidity level of 93 percent. Meteorological data further indicated that Dhaka's maximum temperature reached 35.4 degrees Celsius yesterday, while today's minimum temperature was recorded at 26.9 degrees Celsius. Winds in the Dhaka and surrounding region have been blowing at a speed of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour.
Alongside the general weather and temperature observations, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has officially issued a number one warning signal for the country's internal riverports. This maritime and riverine advisory is aimed at ensuring safety precautions are observed across vulnerable waterways as atmospheric instability persists.
The department confirmed that specific parts of the country are at direct risk of severe weather disruptions. According to the forecast details, temporary gusty or squally winds are expected to sweep directly over the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar.
Authorities have outlined that wind speeds associated with these riverport warning alerts could range between 45 and 60 kilometers per hour. The combination of rain, thunderstorms, and high-velocity winds necessitates heightened vigilance for all water vessels operating within the designated riverport zones during this period.
