Bangladesh Launches Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign in Five High-Risk Districts
Health authorities have initiated a two-dose oral preventive cholera vaccination campaign in high-risk areas across five districts including Dhaka. Pregnant women are exempt from the immunization drive.

Bangladesh has launched a comprehensive preventive vaccination campaign utilizing oral cholera vaccines across several designated high-risk districts in the country. The health initiative is structured to be administered in two distinct phases to maximize protection among vulnerable populations residing in the identified regions.
According to official schedules, the initial rollout of the vaccination campaign commenced on August 22, marking the distribution of the first dose to eligible residents. Following this initial phase, health authorities have scheduled the administration of the second dose to take place on September 26.
The nationwide effort is being implemented across a targeted geographical footprint comprising five specific districts. This operational area includes the Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations, alongside the districts of Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Brahmanbaria, and Kishoreganj, encompassing seven designated police stations.
While the vaccination drive targets populations in these cholera-prone zones, explicit safety guidelines have been established regarding specific demographics. Authorities have confirmed that pregnant women are entirely exempt from the scope of this oral cholera vaccination program.
The execution of the campaign involves coordination among key government bodies, featuring the Directorate General of Health Services, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, and other relevant administrative entities working to address the public health concern.
