Bangladesh Holds Joint Disaster Comms Drill Across Eight Divisions
Fire Service and ARAB complete a three-day joint communication exercise across 16 locations. The drill focuses on alternative emergency response systems during major disasters.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence, in collaboration with the Amateur Radio Association of Bangladesh (ARAB), has successfully completed a comprehensive joint communication exercise aimed at establishing alternative communication systems during emergency situations and ensuring that operational activities remain fully functional.
The nationwide exercise, which spanned three days, officially commenced on August 23 and concluded on August 25. During this designated period, the participating organizations tested various response strategies and communication protocols across multiple administrative zones to evaluate their readiness for critical infrastructure failures.
The joint drill was conducted simultaneously across 16 distinct locations situated within all eight divisions of the country. This extensive geographical coverage allowed coordinators to thoroughly test disaster management capabilities and communication links across diverse regional landscapes and urban centers.
Throughout the three-day program, the participating teams executed simulated drills designed to prepare responders for a wide range of severe natural and man-made catastrophes. The scenarios specifically addressed major disaster situations including earthquakes, cyclones, tidal surges, floods, radioactivity incidents, and landslides.
According to updates from the Fire Service headquarters media cell and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), key officials supervised the operations. Among the confirmed personnel involved in the oversight and execution of the program were Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mahmudul Hasan, Md. Mamunur Rashid, Md. Saleh Uddin, Anup Kumar Bhoumik, Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal, and Lieutenant Colonel M A Azad Anwar.
