Bangladesh Government Decides to Post Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officers in Home Districts

The government of Bangladesh has officially decided to permit sub-assistant agriculture officers working at the field level within the agricultural sector to be posted within their respective home districts. This significant policy shift was finalized on August 31, 2026, during a high-level cabinet meeting held in Dhaka.

The cabinet meeting where this decision was reached was presided over by Prime Tarique Rahman. Following the conclusion of the meeting, the details of the new administrative policy were formally announced to the public during a press briefing held at the conference room of the Press Information Department.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani briefed journalists regarding the rationale behind the policy change. Explaining the previous administrative framework, Gani noted that under the system which had been in operation since 2020, individuals working at the absolute field level—commonly known as block supervisors or roughly equivalent to assistant agriculture officers—were strictly prohibited from working in their own home districts.

Detailing the new directive, Nasimul Gani stated that the government has now decided that these field-level agriculture personnel will be posted in their home districts. He clarified that while they will be assigned to their home districts, they will as far as possible be placed in nearby locations rather than directly at their exact homes to maximize operational effectiveness.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, this strategic move has been undertaken by the government with specific objectives in mind. The authorities expect that allowing these officials to serve closer to home will enable them to deliver a higher output of work, dedicate more time to their duties, and ultimately increase their overall accountability.
