The high-level gathering brought together key political leaders from Darjeeling alongside prominent figures including Bimal Ghising, Subhash Ghisingh, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, within a political landscape that also involves organizations such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and the Darjeeling Territorial Administration (GTA).
During the deliberations in Sukna, Home Minister Amit Shah provided a direct assurance regarding the region's future. He promised a permanent political solution to the long-standing challenges that have affected Darjeeling for years, addressing concerns raised by the local leadership who attended the discussions alongside senior officials.
To establish a clear path toward this permanent resolution, it was announced during the meeting that a dedicated committee will be formed. This specialized body will be tasked with navigating the complexities of the regional demands and finding a workable political framework for the area.
BJP leader and Union Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh has been appointed as the mediator to oversee this newly announced committee. His role will be central to bridging the gaps between the various stakeholders and facilitating negotiations aimed at bringing lasting political stability to Darjeeling.
