Union Minister Amit Shah arrived in West Bengal on Thursday night for a comprehensive three-day official visit, marking a significant engagement with regional security and administrative developments in the eastern part of the country. His itinerary included a key public and official appearance in Siliguri on Friday, where he presided over a high-profile foundation stone-laying ceremony for various vital national security-related projects.
The official ceremony took place at the frontier headquarters of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) located in Siliguri, West Bengal, India. The event brought together prominent political figures and security officials, including Amit Shah, Mamata Banerjee, and Suvendu Adhikari, alongside personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the Border Security Force (BSF), and representatives of the BJP government.
During the proceedings, the discussions and announcements heavily focused on land allocation and strategic territorial requirements for defense installations. Specifically, official administrative metrics highlighted the involvement of 1,129 acres of land in certain developmental contexts, alongside another distinct parcel measuring 80 acres of land designated for related infrastructural and security purposes.
Addressing the gathering and outlining the strategic vision for the region, Amit Shah emphasized the critical geopolitical importance of the area. He made a formal statement regarding the ongoing defensive enhancements, noting: "শিলিগুড়ি করিডরের নিরাপত্তা আরও জোরদার করা হয়েছে। এ জন্য সীমান্ত এলাকায় সচেতনতা বাড়ানোর পাশাপাশি নিরাপত্তা বাহিনীর সদস্য মোতায়েন বাড়ানো হয়েছে এবং অরক্ষিত সীমান্তে কাঁটাতারের বেড়া দেওয়ার উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয়েছে।"
