Seven Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in West Bengal for Illegal Entry
Seven Bangladeshi nationals hailing from Rajshahi have been arrested by police in Murshidabad after crossing the international border without valid documents. The individuals, who intended to travel to Chennai for masonry work, have been transferred to a holding center.
Law enforcement authorities in the Indian state of West Bengal have apprehended a group of foreign nationals during a security operation along the international boundary. According to confirmed police reports, exactly seven Bangladeshi nationals were taken into custody by personnel attached to the Raninagar police station.
The arrests took place late on Wednesday night, specifically on August 19, 2026. The operation unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Raninagar border, specifically targeting the Kaharpara area situated within the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, India.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the local authorities revealed crucial details regarding the movement of the apprehended individuals. The seven Bangladeshi nationals had originally originated from Rajshahi before crossing over the international frontier into Indian territory.
Official records confirm that the group crossed the border entirely without valid travel documents or legal authorization. During subsequent questioning, the detainees disclosed their primary objective for entering the country, stating that they intended to travel onward to Chennai to seek employment as masonry workers.
Following their apprehension by the Raninagar police force, the legal processing of the seven individuals was promptly initiated by the authorities. Consequently, all seven detainees were transferred out of the local precinct and successfully sent to the Lalgola holding center, where they remain pending further administrative and legal proceedings.
