Akkelpur Hospital Food Irregularities Uncovered in Joypurhat
Authorities at the Akkelpur 50-bed Upazila Health Complex intervened after discovering irregularities in patient meals. Officials rejected undersized fish deliveries and ordered chicken to be served instead.

Allegations of significant irregularities regarding the supply of food to admitted patients have emerged at the Akkelpur 50-bed Upazila Health Complex located in Joypurhat. The incident, which came to light on August 30, 2026, centers around the quality and weight of fish being provided to individuals receiving medical care at the government health facility.
According to the verified details of the incident, the supplier was contractually obligated to provide standard-sized fish weighing approximately one kilogram each. However, instead of adhering to these established dietary standards, the contractor delivered significantly smaller fish featuring heads, tails, and entrails still intact, with each individual fish weighing merely between 500 and 600 grams.
The malpractice was uncovered when the hospital's Resident Medical Officer, Dr. Md. Fazle Rabbi Rakib, was present at the facility. While he was actively examining patients in the morning, he received information from locals regarding the ongoing irregularities concerning the food supplies being brought in for the vulnerable patients.
Acting swiftly upon receiving the local tips, Dr. Md. Fazle Rabbi Rakib personally proceeded directly to the hospital kitchen to investigate the matter firsthand. Upon arriving at the kitchen, he personally conducted a physical weight measurement of the delivered fish stock, which totaled approximately 12 to 14 kilograms in overall quantity.
The physical verification confirmed that the weight of the delivered seafood fell drastically short of the required and official specifications. Consequently, Dr. Md. Fazle Rabbi Rakib took immediate administrative action by completely rejecting the substandard fish consignment, altering the daily meal menu, and issuing strict directives to provide chicken to the patients as a replacement.
