AI-Based Auto Fine System Launched on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway
Highway authorities have introduced an artificial intelligence-powered traffic monitoring network featuring 490 cameras along the major corridor. The automated system is designed to detect violations and curb illicit extortion on the route.
A technologically advanced 'Auto Fine System' utilizing artificial intelligence has officially been launched on the critical Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Implemented by the Highway Police, the new surveillance and enforcement mechanism aims to rigorously monitor vehicular movement along one of the nation's busiest transportation corridors. The deployment marks a significant technological upgrade in how traffic regulations and highway management will be enforced moving forward.
As part of this comprehensive infrastructure rollout, a total of 490 AI-enabled cameras have been installed along the entire stretch extending from Chittagong to Dhaka. These high-tech devices are strategically positioned to continuously oversee road conditions and capture various infractions committed by motorists in real time. According to official operational details, the network is fully integrated to streamline accountability without requiring direct physical intervention by on-site patrol officers for every single infraction.
Explaining the technical capabilities of the new infrastructure, officials noted that any motorist exceeding designated speed limits, flouting standard traffic laws, driving against the flow of traffic in the wrong lane, or executing dangerous overtaking maneuvers in prohibited zones will be immediately flagged by the cameras. Once an infraction is captured by the system, a penalty is generated and applied automatically through the digital network. Subsequently, the precise fine data is transmitted directly into the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) database, after which an automated SMS notification is dispatched straight to the mobile phone of the registered vehicle owner.
In addition to penalizing moving violations, the newly operational closed-circuit television and AI camera network is expected to target illegal and unauthorized vehicles on the expressway. Authorities confirmed that no unauthorized or unlicensed three-wheelers, nor any non-motorized transport vehicles, will be permitted to operate on the highway. Police have been directed to take immediate legal action against any such vehicles found violating these established restrictions.
Furthermore, the surveillance grid is intended to address the persistent issue of illegal toll collection and extortion along the transport artery. High-ranking officials emphasized that any tendency toward extortion on the highway—whether originating from vehicle owner factions, labor federations, or even law enforcement personnel—will be thoroughly documented and permanently stored as recorded evidence within the CCTV and AI camera systems. It is anticipated that this transparent digital record-keeping will significantly curb criminal extortion tendencies, ultimately making the highway completely free of unlawful collections through the comprehensive cooperation of the general public.
