Academic and Research Integrity Conclave 2026 Held in Dhaka

On September 9, 2026, the Academic and Research Integrity Conclave 2026 was officially held at the BRAC University Multipurpose Hall located in Dhaka. The significant academic event was organized through the initiative of the Ayesha Abed Library of BRAC University, with Turnitin participating as the knowledge partner for the gathering.

During the discussions on research standards, concerning statistics were highlighted regarding academic publishing. It was revealed that compared to the year 2020, the rate of retracted research papers has currently increased by approximately 80 times. Furthermore, investigations uncovered that more than 1,500 fake research papers originated from a single Ukraine-centric network alone.

Distinguished academics and professionals shared their insights during the sessions. Mohammad Abdul Basit stated, "We must think about preventing plagiarism in the era of AI. However, before making decisions, we must certainly remain professional and impartial." Echoing similar sentiments regarding modern technology, Mamun Ahmed remarked, "It is not possible to ban or control AI. However, its responsible, ethical, and transparent use must be ensured."

The conclave brought together numerous prominent figures from various prestigious institutions and organizations. Among the attendees were Chaiti Mitra, Mohammad Abdul Basit, Mamun Ahmed, Rasheda K Choudhury, A F M Yusuf Haider, Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury, Shamsad Mortuza, M. Tamim, Syed Chowdhury, Kaosar Afsana, Shakhor Shatabdi, Hasina Afroz, and Mohammad Khairul Bashar.

Represented institutions and academic bodies at the event included BRAC University, Turnitin, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the University Grants Commission (UGC), the University of Dhaka, the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), Carnegie Mellon University, and the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health.
