WhatsApp tests AI content labels for iPhone users

WhatsApp is actively working on the development of a brand-new feature designed to introduce an 'AI content label' specifically for iPhone users. This technological addition aims to provide greater transparency across the messaging platform by making it significantly easier for individuals to identify media that has been generated or altered using artificial intelligence.

According to the latest available details regarding the rollout, this emerging feature is currently being tested within a specific preview build of the application. More precisely, the functionality is presently active in WhatsApp iOS beta version 26.34.10.70 for selected participants who are part of the TestFlight testing program.

At this early stage of implementation, the tool is primarily designed for deployment within WhatsApp Channels. Within this specific context, the newly developed capability is intended to allow channel administrators to properly tag and identify photographs and video content that have been created or modified through artificial intelligence tools.

The integration of this labelling system addresses the growing prevalence of synthetic media circulating across digital platforms. By equipping administrators with the means to explicitly label such content, the platform takes a preliminary step toward helping audiences better understand the origin of the visual media they encounter within channels.
