Popular messaging platform WhatsApp is developing a new feature titled 'Scam Alert' aimed at identifying unknown or suspicious messages to protect its global user base, according to reports published on September 2, 2026. The functionality is designed to actively monitor incoming communications and flag potential threats before they can impact the user.

According to the verified details of the development, the upcoming security feature is currently undergoing experimental testing. As part of this initial rollout phase, the Scam Alert functionality has already successfully reached a select group of Android users who are participating in the testing process.

When the system identifies a suspicious message within a conversation, a distinct warning notice will automatically appear directly inside the chat interface. Crucially, privacy is maintained by design, as this specific alert message will only be visible to the recipient of the chat.

Upon receiving the system-generated security warning, the user is provided with multiple management options to handle the situation safely. The recipient can choose to block the sender directly from the interface, report the account for suspicious activity, or simply dismiss the warning message if they deem it a false alarm.
