Volkswagen has revealed its new Mission Efficiency prototype electric vehicle in Wolfsburg, Germany. The vehicle recently completed a 794-mile test trip to Vienna.

German automaker Volkswagen has officially revealed a brand-new prototype electric vehicle known as the Mission Efficiency. The unveiling took place on September 14, 2026, in Wolfsburg, Germany, marking a significant new development in the company's ongoing automotive engineering and design strategy. The vehicle was specifically crafted to showcase extreme efficiency and aerodynamic performance under real-world driving conditions, drawing attention from industry observers and environmental analysts alike following its debut.
Demonstrating its long-distance capabilities, the Mission Efficiency prototype was successfully driven on a substantial journey spanning 794 miles, or 1,278 kilometers, starting from its birthplace in Wolfsburg, Germany, and concluding in Vienna. According to details released by the manufacturer, the prototype was specifically designed so that it could theoretically be used by a young family of four, balancing high efficiency with practical, everyday passenger accommodation and usability requirements.
Beneath its exterior shell, the innovative prototype utilizes the electric motor and battery system sourced directly from the ID. Polo. This powertrain integration allowed the engineering team to leverage proven components while pushing the boundaries of vehicle range and energy consumption.
