US Resumes Immigrant Visas for Bangladesh and 75 Nations

The United States has officially resumed issuing immigrant visas for citizens of Bangladesh and 75 other countries following a months-long suspension. The reversal comes after a federal court ruling prompted the U.S. Department of State to update its online policy status.

The United States has formally reinstated the processing and issuance of immigrant visas for citizens hailing from Bangladesh alongside 75 other nations across the globe. This significant policy shift reverses a contentious suspension that had been put into effect by the United States Department of State earlier in January of this year, leaving numerous applicants in limbo.

The resumption of these crucial consular services follows a decisive legal challenge brought forward by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, commonly referred to as CLINIC. The organization mounted a robust legal battle against the initial suspension, taking the matter directly to the federal judiciary to seek relief for affected individuals and families.

The legal proceedings culminated in a crucial ruling issued by United States District Judge Jeannette Vargas, presiding in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Judge Vargas's judicial decision effectively challenged the government's previous stance, compelling a re-evaluation of the widespread immigrant visa restrictions that had affected the total of 75 designated countries.

Official confirmation of the policy reversal became apparent when the United States Department of State officially updated its departmental website to reflect the new reality. According to the digital updates recorded and verified on August 28, the previous restrictive suspension order is no longer active or in effect.

While the initial administrative order directing these changes was formally signed and issued earlier on August 21, the subsequent online updates on August 28 provided the definitive confirmation required by applicants and legal observers alike. With the suspension now officially lifted, citizens of Bangladesh and the other impacted nations can once again pursue their immigrant visa applications through standard diplomatic channels.
