Tangail Hosts Sweet Festival 2026 Celebrating GI-Certified Delicacies
Tangail has hosted the Sweet Festival 2026, highlighting the region's rich culinary heritage. The event featured twenty-three stalls representing twelve upazilas from across the district.
The cultural and culinary landscape of Tangail was on full display as the district successfully hosted the Sweet Festival 2026. This prominent event brought together local confectioners, food enthusiasts, and organizers to celebrate the renowned traditional sweets of the region.
A major focal point of the festival was the celebration of Tangail's acclaimed culinary achievements, most notably the Porabari chomchom. This iconic sweet has officially attained the prestigious geographical indication (GI) product status, cementing its historical and cultural significance to the district.
In addition to the famous Porabari chomchom, the festival also spotlighted other local delicacies that have achieved official recognition. Among these celebrated items is the Jamurki shondesh, which is also proudly included in the official list of geographical indication products.
The grandeur of Tangail's heritage extended beyond confectionery at the 2026 festival, acknowledging other regionally and nationally treasured items. Notably, the traditional Tangail sari has also achieved geographical indication product status, further enriching the cultural identity showcased during the events.
Organized to promote and preserve the local heritage, the festival successfully accommodated twenty-three stalls representing twelve distinct upazilas of Tangail. Prominent figures including Nadia Islam, Dweep Bhoumik, and Sharifa Haque were associated with the event alongside organizations such Prothom Alo, Kalidas Mistanna Bhandar, and Siddique Sweetmeats.
