Sreemangal Sub-Registry Office Faces Tk 1.5 Crore Revenue Fraud Probe
Authorities in Moulvibazar are investigating allegations of government revenue evasion amounting to approximately 1.5 crore Baka through land registration fraud. The inquiry follows a formal written complaint filed by Md. Jasim Mia regarding a disputed 2020 bayna deed.
A formal investigation has been initiated into allegations of substantial government revenue evasion at the Sreemangal Sub-Registry Office located in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. The case centres on an alleged financial fraud involving land registration procedures, with estimated losses to the state treasury reaching approximately 1.5 crore Baka. The official complaint brings to light serious concerns regarding the administrative handling of property documents within the local registry department.
The controversy stems from a specific land transaction involving 4.2726 acres of land. According to the documented details of the case, the total value of this property was assessed at 6 crore 40 lakh 89 thousand taka, while a preliminary agreement or bayna amount of 60 lakh taka was recorded. The central transaction under scrutiny is the No. 1622 bayna deed, which was officially registered on the 8th of June in the year 2020.
The formal legal challenge was initiated by Md. Jasim Mia, who submitted a detailed written complaint directly to the Moulvibazar District Registrar's office. To ensure broader administrative oversight, official copies of this complaint were also forwarded to the National Board of Revenue as well as the Inspector General of the Department of Registration, drawing high-level attention to the alleged irregularities.
Addressing the timeline of the disputed document, Sub-Registrar Shankar Kumar Dhar stated, 'The bayna deeds were registered in 2020, whereas I joined the office in 2024. I was not aware of whether the bayna registry had been kept hidden.' His comments highlight a gap between the execution of the 2020 deed and the current administrative tenure overseeing the office.
In response to the mounting pressure from the written allegations and subsequent inquiries from oversight bodies including the AG Audit, local authorities have vowed to take strict action. Md. Mofijul Islam addressed the gravity of the situation by stating, 'The matter of the complaint is being viewed with great importance. It will be investigated during an inspection, and if truth is found, strict legal action will be taken accordingly. There is no scope for leniency in this regard.'
