Academic discussions regarding the integration of artificial intelligence and large language models into urban transport management recently took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh. On August 15, 2026, Dr. Li Qian, an associate professor at the College of Transportation at Tongji University in China, participated in two distinct seminars held within the capital city to address these modern infrastructural challenges.

The academic events were hosted across two prominent educational institutions: North South University and the University of Dhaka. These gatherings brought together researchers and educators to explore how advanced technological frameworks can be leveraged to address pressing logistical issues within densely populated metropolitan areas.

During the sessions, Dr. Li Qian emphasized that artificial intelligence could play a crucial role in resolving the urban transportation problems typically faced by rapidly growing megacities. He noted that AI is expected to serve as an important guide in the near future for establishing smart and sustainable mobility systems.

Elaborating on the technical implementation, Dr. Li explained that the application of AI in urban transport can be categorized into four primary levels. These specific stages include data enhancement, knowledge enhancement based on knowledge graphs, algorithmic model enhancement, and task enhancement achieved through multi-agent collaboration.

Furthermore, the visiting professor highlighted that simply creating theoretical models will not suffice to build a smart transportation system. He stressed the necessity of establishing a robust open-source smart transportation ecosystem through the joint initiatives of universities, research institutions, and the industrial sector.

The individual university events featured specific institutional contributions from local faculty members. At North South University, Professor Ehsan Ahmed Ashrafi delivered the welcome speech, while Dr. Md. Rafiqul Haque moderated the proceedings during the seminar held at the University of Dhaka.
