Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan Hold First Joint Meeting in Istanbul

Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan gathered in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday, August 31, for their very first trilateral meeting involving the three nations. The high-level talks marked a significant step in diplomatic and military cooperation between the governments of Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan as they begin implementing recent strategic agreements.

Following the conclusion of the discussions in Istanbul, the three nations released a joint official statement outlining key administrative decisions. According to the announcement, a representative from Pakistan has been selected to serve as the first Secretary-General of the newly established secretariat, taking on a three-year term of leadership.

The historic meeting in Istanbul follows the signing of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, which took place earlier in the month of August. Under the terms of this newly established pact, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan have committed to working closely together to strengthen their combined defense capabilities and enhance overall coordination among their respective armed forces.

A critical clause within the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement explicitly establishes a mutual defense commitment between the participating nations. Specifically, the agreement dictates that any armed attack launched against just one of the three member countries will be officially regarded and treated as an armed attack against all three nations combined.

In addition to outlining mutual defense strategies and command structures, the participating delegations reached a formal consensus regarding the physical infrastructure of the alliance. During the meetings, representatives from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan agreed that the official headquarters of the newly formed joint defense alliance will be established within the territory of Saudi Arabia.
