RhinoShield sets Guinness World Record by dropping iPhone from stratosphere
Smartphone case manufacturer RhinoShield has secured a Guinness World Record after dropping an iPhone from a height of 30,607 meters. The extreme test took place at the Esrange Space Center in Sweden.

Smartphone accessory manufacturer RhinoShield has officially entered the record books after successfully dropping an iPhone from the stratosphere, achieving a remarkable feat recognized by Guinness World Records. The high-altitude experiment, which pushed mobile protection limits to the extreme, was officially certified by Guinness World Records on Wednesday following a rigorous evaluation process of the historic drop.
The ambitious test was conducted on June 24 at the Esrange Space Center located in Sweden. According to the documented details of the mission, the iPhone was sent into the upper atmosphere attached to a weather balloon before being released from a staggering altitude of 30,607 meters, which translates to approximately 100,417 feet above the Earth's surface.
During its perilous descent, the device had to endure exceptionally harsh environmental conditions characteristic of the stratosphere. The smartphone experienced a descent duration of approximately 25 minutes, plunging through freezing temperatures ranging from minus 40 degrees Celsius to minus 60 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the phone encountered extreme atmospheric pressure that plummeted to a mere one percent of standard sea-level pressure.
Despite the punishing freezing cold, low pressure, and the sheer velocity of the long drop back down to the ground, the iPhone emerged fully operational. Remarkably, after hitting the terrain, the device was still functional, making it possible to successfully make phone calls and capture photographs without any impediment.
The remarkable survival of the device was credited to specialized engineering, as the smartphone was protected inside RhinoShield's flagship AirX Ultra cushioned phone case. Muju Xiao noted that this unprecedented world record for dropping a cased phone from the stratosphere was successfully accomplished through the vision and planning of RhinoShield founder Eric Wang.
