Raghu Rai exhibition and tribute opens in Dhaka for World Photography Day

Marking World Photography Day, a special event and exhibition titled 'Raghu Rai Re-education' has officially commenced in the capital city of Dhaka. The multi-day cultural tribute is being held from last Wednesday through to the coming Sunday, offering visitors a deep dive into the artistic legacy of the late, renowned photographer Raghu Rai. Spanning multiple prominent locations, the commemorative program is primarily hosted at the DrikPath Bhawan situated in Panthpath, alongside events extending to Dhanmondi in Dhaka.

This significant tribute and educational showcase has been organized and brought to life by the dedicated students of the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute. Their collaborative efforts aim to celebrate the profound impact of Raghu Rai on the global and regional photographic community while fostering a learning environment for contemporary and aspiring visual artists in Dhaka.

A central feature of the ongoing exhibition at DrikPath Bhawan is the display of twenty-two authentic photographs captured by Raghu Rai himself. Complementing his iconic works, the gallery space also features twenty-seven photographs captured by other talented photographers, creating a diverse visual dialogue between the late master's enduring vision and the works of contemporary practitioners.

In addition to the photographic prints on display, the special event incorporates a notable literary and archival component curated for the attendees and scholars. The exhibition proudly houses a dedicated collection of seventeen books authored by or concerning the celebrated artist, providing visitors with comprehensive contextual reading material regarding his extensive career and artistic philosophy.

To further enrich the public's engagement with the archival materials throughout the duration of the event, organizers have arranged for a specific selection of literature to be made accessible. Visitors attending the exhibition on a daily basis are presented with an opportunity to explore a curated rotation of seven books every single day.

The commemorative undertaking stands as a notable cultural gathering in Dhaka, drawing together photography enthusiasts, students, and practitioners to honor the monumental contributions of Raghu Rai.
