Putin Accuses West of Using Sanctions at BRICS Forum in India

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India on Friday for a significant three-day visit, during which he addressed a high-profile panel at the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi. His address to the forum centered heavily on international economic competition, geopolitical tensions, and the heavy restrictions currently facing the Russian economy from Western nations.

Addressing the business forum audience in the Indian capital, the Russian leader launched a direct critique of Western nations, accusing them of attempting to secure and regain their former global leadership roles through unsavory means and sweeping restrictive measures. According to Putin, the foundational rules of international commerce are being discarded by traditional market competitors when it suits their geopolitical goals.

Expanding on his critique of Western economic policies, Putin highlighted the contradiction he perceives between stated free-market principles and actual geopolitical actions. "We have constantly been told that competition is a ‘sacred cow’ — something that must not be touched at all. Unfortunately, however, our Western competitors are currently trying to regain their former leadership by any means necessary," the Russian president stated during the panel discussion.
