PSC Weighs General or Special Format for 51st BCS Recruiting 5,000 Doctors

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is currently moving forward with a strategic roadmap aimed at completing one Bangladesh Civil Service examination and publishing its final results every year. As part of this ongoing scheduling framework, the authorities had initially planned to publish the final results of the 50th BCS alongside the issuance of a brand-new notification for the 51st BCS within the target month of November.

However, a significant decision remains pending at the PSC regarding the exact structural format of the upcoming 51st BCS examination. Specifically, the commission is deliberating whether the 51st BCS will be conducted as a traditional general civil service examination or if it will be designated as a special BCS to address specific recruitment needs in the public healthcare sector.

This deliberation comes in the wake of official requisitions sent directly to the PSC by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Public Administration. According to these administrative communications, the ministries have requested the recruitment of a total of 5,000 doctors through the upcoming recruitment drive.

The requested batch of 5,000 medical professionals comprises two distinct categories of healthcare providers to be inducted into public service. The requisition specifically outlines a demand for 4,700 assistant surgeons, alongside an additional 300 dental surgeons to serve within the healthcare system.

The question of whether the 51st BCS will be a special examination carries notable procedural implications for the candidates. In a special BCS, the recruitment process is streamlined and concluded exclusively through a preliminary test followed by a viva voce, bypassing the lengthy written examination stages typically required in general BCS cycles.
