Moheshkhali FSRU LNG Terminal Resumes Gas Supply in Bangladesh

Excelerate Energy's floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) LNG terminal located in Moheshkhali, Cox's Bazar, has officially resumed its gas supply operations after experiencing a three-day closure. The temporary halt in operations was necessitated by the arrival of a new cargo, marking a significant development for the energy infrastructure in Bangladesh.

According to the confirmed schedule, the terminal successfully restarted operations around 2 PM on Saturday, August 22. This resumption follows a previous suspension that began on August 19, which occurred due to a lack of LNG cargo in the pipeline. That earlier disruption itself followed an earlier fire incident that had impacted the facility on July 21.

The newly arrived liquefied natural gas carrier was supplied by British Petroleum (BP) and was specifically purchased from the spot market. Notably, this vessel arrived one day ahead of its originally scheduled time, allowing the Excelerate Energy facility to recommence its crucial operations sooner than anticipated.

Following the restart of the Moheshkhali terminal, the immediate initial gas supply from the facility reached 100 million cubic feet. Furthermore, the total LNG supply currently flowing from two operational terminals has reached 686 million cubic feet, with officials expecting an additional increase in gas supply of 300 million cubic feet by midnight.

Additional operational figures from Saturday at 2 PM noted a gas supply of 580 million cubic feet alongside gas received from Summit. As a direct result of these ongoing operational revivals and cargo integrations, the total current countrywide gas supply has increased to approximately 2,300 million cubic feet.
