MCAB Sets New Open Market Dollar Exchange Rates in Dhaka
The Money Changer Association of Bangladesh has announced new open market exchange rates for the US dollar, setting the purchase price at Tk 125.50 and the selling price at Tk 126.50. The rates were declared during a press conference held at the association's central office in Dhaka on August 24, 2026.

In an effort to regulate the open market currency exchange, the Money Changer Association of Bangladesh (MCAB) has officially fixed new exchange rates for the US dollar. According to the latest announcement, the currency will now be purchased at 125.50 taka per dollar and sold at 126.50 taka per dollar.
The crucial financial update was officially disclosed to the public and media representatives on August 24, 2026. The announcement was made during a formal press conference organized at the central office of the association, situated in the capital city of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
High-ranking officials from the association were present to brief the media regarding the updated financial figures. The press conference was attended by MCAB President M. S. Zaman and General Secretary Engineer Gautam Dey, who addressed various aspects of the foreign exchange scenario.
Speaking during the event, MCAB President M. S. Zaman elaborated on the rationale behind the new rates, stating that the pricing for the US dollar has been determined specifically in light of the guidelines provided by Bangladesh Bank. He further mentioned that these newly established rates are currently being communicated to all money changers across the country through the official website of the organization.
Addressing broader market dynamics, M. S. Zaman firmly asserted that the responsibility for unethical manipulations in the dollar market does not lie with money changers, but rather with the commercial banks. He explained that because the operational scope and capacity of the money changer sector are extremely limited, there is fundamentally no opportunity or mechanism for this sector to manipulate the market or play any games with currency values.
Furthermore, the MCAB president highlighted the vital role played by money changers in supporting the national economy. He noted that when expatriate workers bring their hard-earned cash savings back to the country, money changers purchase those funds and bring them into the legal financial channel, thereby indirectly helping to increase the foreign exchange reserves of Bangladesh.
