Malaysia denies Dhaka's official stance on taking 200,000 workers

Putrajaya, Malaysia — Reports circulating regarding the recruitment of two hundred thousand workers from Bangladesh over the next six months do not reflect the official position of the Dhaka government, according to a senior Malaysian official. Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil addressed the matter on Wednesday, clarifying the ongoing discussions surrounding foreign employment numbers.

The clarification from Putrajaya came after Fahmi consulted directly with Malaysia's Human Resources Minister, R. Ramanan. According to Fahmi, Minister Ramanan confirmed that the circulating reports regarding the massive recruitment drive did not originate from an official government statement by Bangladesh.

Fahmi Fadzil further elaborated on the source of the communication during his remarks on Wednesday. Based on his understanding and discussions with the Human Resources Minister, the specific remarks in question were delivered by a state minister rather than representing the collective and official policy of the Bangladesh government.

Previously, statements had been made suggesting that Malaysia would take approximately two hundred thousand workers, with a subset of ten thousand workers to be recruited completely free of cost. These figures and claims have now been drawn into question regarding their official standing as diplomatic and governmental communications.

The exchange highlights ongoing sensitivities surrounding migrant worker recruitment channels and official diplomatic messaging between the two nations.
