Khulna Rooftop Solar Plant Launched With New Government Subsidies
A new one-megawatt rooftop solar plant has been inaugurated at Bangladesh Cable Industries Limited in Khulna. During the event, the government announced fresh financial incentives and loans at a one percent interest rate to boost solar energy production.
A significant milestone in renewable energy infrastructure was achieved on September 9, 2026, with the official inauguration of a new rooftop solar plant in Khulna. The renewable energy facility, which boasts a power generation capacity of one megawatt, was installed at the premises of Bangladesh Cable Industries Limited located in the Shromoni area of Khulna.
The high-profile inauguration ceremony was graced by Fakir Mahbub Anam, who attended the event as the chief guest and delivered a crucial keynote speech regarding the nation's energy future. Alongside the minister, several notable figures were associated with the broader regional context of the event, including Bilkis Jahan Rimi, Nazrul Islam Monju, Md. Shahidul Islam, Md. Enamul Haque, Md. Shahjahan, and Alamgir Hossain, with institutional presence noted from Bangladesh Cable Industries Limited, the Khulna City Corporation, and the Khulna District Administration.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration, chief guest Fakir Mahbub Anam made sweeping announcements regarding state policy transformations aimed at encouraging green energy adoption. The minister formally declared that the government will provide financial incentives in the form of loans carrying an extremely low interest rate of just one percent for ordinary citizens and entities who establish solar power plants.
Furthermore, to guarantee financial viability for private and public green energy producers, the government committed to purchasing any surplus electricity generated by these solar installations. According to the newly announced official pricing policy, the state will buy the surplus power back at a rate of 10 taka and 50 paisa per unit.
Elaborating on the broader strategic roadmap for the nation, Fakir Mahbub Anam revealed that the administration has established an ambitious target to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity exclusively from solar power plants over the course of the next five years. As part of this comprehensive national strategy, specific initiatives have also been undertaken to utilize vacant and uncultivated lands across the country specifically for the establishment of large-scale solar power plants.
Emphasizing the vital necessity of energy security and sustainable practices during his concluding remarks, the minister stressed that in order to ensure an uninterrupted and stable supply of electricity across the country, utmost importance must be placed on the widespread utilization of solar power and advanced solar panels.
