Authorities in Bangladesh have moved forward with critical infrastructure recovery efforts following severe flood damage in the country's northeastern region. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase officially recommended the approval of two separate proposals aimed at the emergency rehabilitation and reconstruction of essential transportation routes, including roads, bridges, and culverts, that suffered significant destruction during recent flooding events in the Sunamganj and Habiganj districts.

The high-level official meeting convened on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, taking place inside the Bangladesh Secretariat located in the capital city of Dhaka. Proceedings for the committee session were overseen and chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, who directed discussions regarding the necessary procurement processes to restore connectivity and transport links for communities impacted by the natural disaster.

Specific logistical planning for the infrastructure overhaul includes designated parcels of work managed through regional administrative bodies. The operational scope falls under the purview of the Roads and Highways Division, alongside localized execution through the Sunamganj Road Division and the Habiganj Road Division, which will oversee the physical restoration of the battered regional roadway networks and water-crossing structures.

Financial evaluations for the extensive rehabilitation efforts place substantial monetary value on the contractual obligations. Official administrative documentation confirms that the original contract value for the specific construction and repair work designated under package WP-10 amounts to 143 crore 47 lakh 23 thousand 754 taka and 77 paisa, which is broadly referenced within public procurement records as approximately 143 crore taka.

To execute the extensive engineering and construction tasks outlined in the government proposals, authorities selected a primary private-sector contractor. Orient Trading and Builders Limited, a commercial enterprise maintaining its corporate business location in Niketan, Gulshan-1, Dhaka, was officially recommended by the committee as the successful bidder to carry out the flood recovery construction work.
