Ireland's RTÉ Announces Boycott of 2027 Eurovision Over Israel

Ireland's national broadcaster, RTÉ, has officially announced that it will boycott the upcoming 2027 Eurovision Song Contest. According to the confirmed details, this strong stance has been taken specifically in protest of Israel's participation in the internationally renowned musical competition.

As part of this definitive boycott, RTÉ has confirmed that it will not send any musical artist to represent Ireland at the event. Furthermore, the Irish national broadcaster has made the decision that it will not broadcast the Eurovision program to audiences in Ireland.

The organizations and broadcasters note that this drastic measure is driven directly by the severe and ongoing loss of human life in Gaza, alongside the deepening humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region. The broadcaster feels that participation under the current circumstances is untenable.

This development follows similar protests held earlier. During the current year, a total of five countries—including Ireland, alongside the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain—boycotted the Eurovision Song Contest to protest the inclusion of Israel in the international event.

Adding to the growing movement of non-participation, the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has also formally announced that it will boycott the competition next year. The cascading withdrawals highlight mounting pressure from various national broadcasting organizations across Europe regarding the controversy.

Looking ahead, the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is currently scheduled to take place during the month of May. The host location for the multi-nation musical event is designated as Burgas, a prominent city situated along the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria.
